It may be early but I am calling it, the Storm will win the 2016 premiership.
In last night’s game the Bunnies threw everything at the Storm, in an almost flawless performance. They kept Melbourne scoreless in the first half and almost choked them out of the game. But what Melbourne do best is stay in a game, which allows them to win games they shouldn’t, such as last night. Without a doubt the Rabbitohs deserved to win the match.
You have to be perfect to beat the Storm. No player can capitalise on an opposition error like Cameron Smith. It’s not necessarily him making a break or scoring a try, but the control you give to him when you cheaply hand the ball over. Everything is orchestrated and while everyone is playing checkers, Smith is playing chess.
One poor tackle presented Smith a kick at goal, to tie the match up with the full-time siren gone. On to golden point where a missed field goal by the Rabbits gifted the Storm a 7 tackle set. On what turned out to be the final play of the match, the Rabbitoh’s defence rushed up on Cooper Cronk, which Smith read, taking two steps out of dummy half and kicking the game winning field goal.
With so many big game players, the Storm find another gear this time of year, and sitting in the box seat, they’ll make the most of the oppurtunity.
